Our coaching philosophy

The HSC COACH Framework.

Every HSC session is built on five simple habits. They shape how our coaches build relationships, read the game, ask questions, design challenges and decide when to step in — so players learn to think for themselves, not just follow instructions.

Don't just coach the game. Coach the player.

The HSC COACH Framework: Connect, Observe, Ask, Challenge, Help
  1. Step 1

    Connect

Know the child before trying to coach the footballer.

    • Learn their name
    • Show interest
    • Build trust
    • Create a safe environment
  2. Step 2

    Observe

Watch what is actually happening before jumping in.

    • Look, listen and understand
    • See the big picture
    • Identify patterns
    • Don't assume
  3. Step 3

    Ask

Use questions and prompts that help the player see, think and decide.

    • “What can you see?”
    • “Where's the space?”
    • “What could you try?”
    • Develop their understanding
  4. Step 4

    Challenge

Create problems that make players compete, experiment and solve.

    • Set the right problem
    • Encourage decision-making
    • Allow mistakes
    • Celebrate effort and progress
  5. Step 5

    Help

Step in when it adds value — then step away and let them play.

    • Intervene with purpose
    • Use the minimum necessary
    • Adapt your help to the player
    • Then step back
